The development
Trent Park House was Sir Philip Sassoon’s country retreat in the 1920s and 1930s. During the Second World War, British intelligence secretly recorded the conversations of captured German officers held there. After a five-year restoration the mansion opened in July 2026 as the House of Secrets museum, with the ground-floor state rooms restored to their 1930s appearance and the wartime listening rooms recreated in the basement.
S&M is responsible for the electrical package described here, not the wider development.
Coordination
A listed building leaves little room for visible services. Cable routes were planned around panelling, cornices and restored ceilings, and agreed with the conservation and fit-out teams before installation.
The original wartime listening-device wiring was kept in the walls as part of the exhibition, so our installation had to work around it without disturbing it.
Our scope
- 01Full electrical fit-out of the museum spaces, café and classrooms.
- 02Restoration of the basement to its Second World War state, so the listening rooms look as they did in the 1940s while running on modern systems.
- 03Power, lighting and life-safety systems installed discreetly within a listed building.
- 04Lighting to restored ceilings and period interiors.
